Ambler Flatwoods

Amber Flatwoods is located in Michigan City, IN and is a Shirley Heinze Land Trust property. It is open to the public and consists of over 4 miles of trails that cross over both Freyer Road and Meer Road. It can become very dense in the summer, so it’s best to visit in the fall, winter and early spring when you can hear the frogs calling.

The preserve is largely forested and contains several geocaches, making it a fun hike to take with the kids. It also has several bridges and walkways, so you can walk through it even after lots of rain.

There is parking at the main entrance off of Meer Rd. Be sure to sign in when you arrive.

While there, keep your eyes out for all sorts of things like the beautiful changing leaves, a variety of mushrooms, salamanders, migratory birds and even wild turkeys!
