The walls are going up, and Dig the Dunes is straight up excited about Duneland Distillery — the new distillery that is coming to the dunes this spring. We talked to Vern Brown, owner of the popular Chesterton Brewery. Vern is heading up this new project, and he gave us the scoop about the space and the spirits they will serve.
The Distillery will be housed in the old 23,000 sq ft. bowling alley at 124 N. 8th Street. Their plans are to open phase 1 in April. This will include both a tasting bar and cocktail bar. The distillery will have a wide variety of spirits including artisan vodka, “not your grandpa’s” Gin (which will be infused with elderberry, rose petals and other delicious flavors), tequila, moonshine and more. You will also be able to get specialty cocktails and mixed drinks. The cost of any tastings can go towards the purchase of bottles, which will also be available.
“The tastings at Duneland Distillery will be a really neat experience,” said Vern, “different than any of the other distilleries around.”
After the initial opening, Duneland Distillery hopes to get their outdoor patio going over the summer and then their final phase will be to bring in a full menu and beer and wine.
Just like Chesterton Brewery, part of Duneland Distillery’s mission will be to give back to veterans and local heroes. Be sure to follow them for updates on their facebook page @dunelandistillery.
