Meet Andrew Morris! Andrew was born and raised in Chesterton, IN, and attended Chesterton High School. A lifelong athlete, he played football, basketball, wrestled, ran cross country and track and channeled his passion for movement and health into a career as a yoga instructor, personal trainer, and Thai-Yoga practitioner. He owns Yoga Mecca in Chesterton, where he leads hundreds of students a week through a variety of yoga disciplines, helping to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and reduce stress. The natural beauty of the dunes is a big draw for Andrew, who enjoys running on the trails.
What brought you to the dunes? I was born in Valparaiso, IN and have lived here my entire life, save my time at Indiana University in Bloomington.
How long have you lived here? I have lived here for 23 years, and love the natural beauty of the dunes and the wonderful park system we have in the area.
What is your favorite thing to do in the area? My favorite activity is hiking, riding my bike, or practicing yoga at Yoga Mecca.
Tell us a secret about the dunes. If you take a hidden trail at Cowles Bog you can arrive at a hot water discharge where the water is warm and wonderful.
Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant, shop, trail, beach, event…really anything!)
a. Revive Consignments, awesome shop for all your home needs.
b. Kidworks LLC, a really amazing team of dedicated professionals who do pediatric rehabilitation.
c. Guru, authentic Indian cuisine in Chesterton, IN. Super delicious Indian food, at reasonable prices, you have to check out the lunch buffet!
What would you like to teach people about the dunes? I would like to teach people all of the amazing hiking and running trails at the State Park and surrounding National Park beaches. Some wonderful places to get active and feel connected to nature.
Anything else? I’m so thankful to Eve and the Dig the Dunes team for featuring me, I really appreciate it. Keep up the phenomenal work you do, I love seeing all of the picturesque photographs on Facebook.
