Meet Chad Ulam! Chad is 32 years old and currently living in Phoenix, Arizona as a Google photographer. He lived in Michigan City Indiana until 2011 when he decided to sell everything and drive across the country to find his next place to live. He lived out of his car for 4 months in search of the perfect environment. Although an avid lover of the dunes, he decided to set up camp in Arizona. Chad has worked with many different companies throughout the country. He shoots marketing pictures for apartment communities, weddings, parties and events.
What brought you to the dunes? Growing up in Michigan City Indiana my mother would take me and my brother and sister to the beach every weekend in the summer. To this day I can remember climbing up the dunes and running down. Memories that will always be with me forever!
How long did you live here? I was born in Michigan City in 1982 and didn’t leave until 2011 to move to Phoenix Arizona to follow my passion of photography.
What is your favorite thing to do in the area? My favorite part about the dunes is that if you just want to get away from everything you can. You’re able to walk on the dunes and get lost. I always say, “Sometimes you have to get lost to find where you’re going in life…”
Tell us a secret about the dunes. I don’t have any secrets about the dunes; I just enjoy taking in every second when I’m there.
Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant, shop, trail, beach, event…really anything!)
a) Stop 2 beach! Friends, Volleyball and great memories!
b) Washington Park back in the day. When I was growing up in MC I had a motorcycle, when it was summer time I would always ride through Washington park and would always meet new bikers. This is where I met some of my best friends in life.
c) Central Beach – Most people didn’t know about it when I was growing up so it an easy place to go and relax.
What would you like to teach people about the dunes? I’m not sure what I would want to teach people. I guess to say that we are lucky to have something so amazing right next door.
