Meet Gerry! Gerry Hundt is the father of three brilliant children and a musician of selective renown. He originally hails from Illinois, has lived in Vermont, Colorado, and New York City, and is well-traveled. He supervises Customer Service at Starin Marketing in Chesterton and oversees the many facets of his own business, SteadyGroove Music.
What brought you to the dunes? My wife and I were living in Chicago and would visit her parents in Chesterton. I was attracted to the affordable real estate, great schools, proximity to Chicago, and community-based atmosphere.
How long have you lived here? 7 years
What is your favorite thing to do in the area? We have a family tradition of hitting Chesterton’s European Market every Saturday, whether I’m playing or not. We love getting to know all the vendors and regulars.
Tell us a secret about the dunes What surprised me most upon moving here was discovering a thriving music and art scene. We were moving someplace to raise our kids, but I hadn’t counted on finding both world-class artists and a community that supported them.
Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant, shop, trail, beach, event…really anything!)
a) The Duneland Chamber of Commerce. They do a wonderful job of bringing people together to support local business.
b) The fish tacos at Leroy’s Hot Stuff, with the homemade hard shells.
c) The Lightning Bug Music Festival, which brings top touring talent to the area and benefits local charity.
What would you like to teach people about the dunes? As with most things, they are what you make them. Turn off the screens, get out of the house and explore!
Anything else? I have a brand-new album coming out very soon, called “Gerry Hundt’s Legendary One-Man-Band.” It was recorded right here in Duneland and will be available online and at gigs. I’m also curating Roots Music Sundays at Gastro49 – a non-smoking, kid-friendly event every Sunday at 5pm featuring live music. Check out www.gerryhundt.com for more!
Gerry is a 2011, 2010, 2009 & 2008 Blues Music Award Nominee. You can find more information about him right here:
