What brought you to the dunes? Sun, sand and water bring me back to the Dunes every year.

How long have you lived here? I’ve lived in NWI most of my life. I lived for a time in Illinois but Indiana is home. The deep seeded home you feel in your bones.

What is your favorite thing to do in the area? I love to play in the sand dunes at the beach with my children. We love to chase the waves when the water is really cold. And we are known for being there until our skin has been fully kissed by the sun. Kemil is our favorite. At times it’s quiet; and feels like we are on an island away from the world.

Tell us a secret about the dunes The Dunes, in my opinion, are grossly underused. The nuances and the differences between each beach are incredible. Spend a summer and get to know each from Whiting to Mount Baldy.

Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant, shop, trail, beach, event…really anything!)

a. Flamingo’s Pizza is heaven on earth. Proof there is a God in heaven!!

b. Spending time with my family at my mom’s house in Merrillville. It’s almost an acre of gorgeous green yard and we’ve had many many laughs and giggles there.

c. Watching Scrooge the Musical, a stage played presented every year at the Family Christian Center in December. The music is amazing the acting is spectacular!

What would you like to teach people about the dunes? It’s what I said before, we often go to the beach that is closest to our home. But the Dunes stretch so far and wide. Each is truly it’s own special destiny.

Anything else? I can’t leave without saying that Women are the heartbeat of our communities. When we, are a people, truly invest in women (in business, in commerce, in love, in training) our children will have a better future. [No need to read into this. Men are important too!! But women own my heart!}
