Ten fun and different dates in the dunes!

Whether you’re looking to impress a new girlfriend or boyfriend, you’ve been married for years, or you just want to hang out with your friends — Dig the Dunes has picked out our top 10 date ideas to keep you busy all spring long!

Hit the trails. Everyone loves to go hiking on a date. It’s a great way to connect with nature as well as the person you are with (even if it’s yourself!). Not only do you get outside, but you get to discover this wonderful area where we live. Take a look at our trail page and choose one you’ve never gone on, or explore a little on your own.

Picnic on the Beach. Want the perfect trail for a picnic on the beach? Go to Cowles Bog! At Cowles Bog you will find a nice long loop with some challenging dunes that leads you right to the beach. Take a break at your halfway point (about 2 miles), have a picnic on the beach and then head back!

Play Disc Golf. The area offers lots of different disc golf parks that you many not have known about. PNC, Creek Ridge County Park, Rogers Lakewood and Hawthorne Park are a few!

Go Stargazing. Did you know that the National Park Service and the Michiana Astronomical Society offer free stargazing at Kemil Beach in Beverly Shores on the third Saturday of every month? Admission is free and telescopes are provided. More information can be found here.

Paddleboard or Kayak. Rent a paddleboard or kayak and head down the Galien River and New Buffalo marsh just outside of New Buffalo. Have your own? This is a great place to drop it in the water, or you can rent through Third Coast Paddling. All the details are right here!

Catch a sunset. The beaches aren’t too crowded yet, so now is the perfect time to head down to the beach at dusk. Grab some wine and cheese and enjoy the beauty over Lake Michigan. Be a little daring and get your feet wet!

Grab a beer. Our area has so many wonderful breweries owned by great people. Many offer food as well. Now that the weather is getting nicer you can take advantage of their outdoor patios. Take a look at South Shore CVA’s beer trail.

Ice Cream or Coffee and a stroll in downtown Valpo. Head to Valpo Velvet for some delicious homemade ice cream or Dagger Mountain for an iced coffee and then do some window shopping. The streets are always buzzing with people, especially as the weather gets nicer.

Bring the Dogs! Want to break the ice? Bring your dogs! Head to one of the area’s dog parks (Creek Ridge and Bluhm are 2 of our favorites) or just take them out on a hike or to the beach with you. Dogs are allowed on Kemil Beach, so let them have some fun while you get to know your date better! Here’s a list of dog friendly areas.
