Need a little getaway? For those 21 and over, we’ve got just the spot for you. The Brewery Lodge in Michigan City, IN is a perfect retreat for just about anyone.
Last week, my team and I were lucky enough to experience it first hand. We arrived at the lodge just after 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon. After freshening up in our room (which was gorgeous!), we went down to the bar for a beer. (and a French Rosé!). We chatted with our bartender, Vestina, while waiting for everyone to arrive. Once the entire group joined us, we sat down for a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Kelly. The menu is small, but always fresh, and changes weekly. On this night we had a choice of a delicious white fish, chicken thigh or salad with chicken. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, paired with a beer from Zorn Brew Works or wine from Shady Creek. There was also a selection of canned or bottled domestics and other craft beers as well as a variety of different wine.
The lodge has 12 rooms with both king and queen beds, flat screen TVs, microwave & a fridge
After dinner, we boarded the brewery bus with our driver, Tony and his co-pilot Zeus (the great dane!). The bus was beautiful, with cushioned seats, a large flat screen TV and surround sound music.
We stopped at the newly opened Ghost Isle Brewery in New Buffalo for a flight of beer and then we headed over to Zorn Brew Works in Michigan City, where things were really hopping for Wednesday night open mic. The scene was buzzing at both places and we felt like we were really on vacation and in an up and coming spot. Everyone was having so much fun!
After our mini tour, we headed back to the lodge where we enjoyed good conversation by the fireplace. The bar was so cozy at that time and we felt so welcomed by the staff.
The fireplace and couches are the perfect place to relax.
When morning arrived, we awoke to the beautiful view of the creek, blooming daffodils and the wooded surroundings. We served ourselves coffee, a bagel and fresh fruit, and sat in the upstairs sitting room taking it all in.
Our overnight would not be complete without a walk around the grounds, snapping photos and enjoying the fresh air. We truly felt like we were on a mini-vacation, just steps from I-94. If you have not yet been to The Brewery Lodge, be sure to put it on your list of things to do; whether just for a drink, dining or a day & night stayover!
Thank you to The Brewery Lodge and Mary Lukes for making our stay so wonderful!
A special thanks to John Van Prooyen for hosting the Dig the Dunes team, Mary Lukes for being an outstanding social director and tour guide, Tony for driving us around and putting up with us, and Zeus for being so darn cute!
