What we’ve been waiting for…

The perfect beach day

The perfect beach day

Summer is here, folks!

Although it’s been a rough start, cold – rain – hot -rain….rain – rain…i think things finally kicked in this past weekend. It was not only Father’s Day, but also the summer solstice – and many people were able to get out and enjoy their weekend, soaking it all in on the longest day of the year.

It was a beautiful day, and as I sat on the beach and watched the kids play in the water, it was hard to picture the frozen lake of just a few months ago. The beauty and changes that this area brings to us are what makes it so special. But let’s not talk about winter now, because summer is in full swing!

Hitting the beach is fun in the summer, but summer also brings so many different outings and events. My weekend was jam packed with things to do. I started Saturday with a trail run and as I did the loop at Tolleston Dunes I was amazed how much things had grown. The wildflowers were in full bloom in the prairie and the trail itself was so beautiful and green.

After my run, it was time to head to the Chesterton European Market, to stock up on fresh veggies, some zucchini bread, a gift for a friend and, of course, a Ben’s soft pretzel!

Summer also means festivals. And Saturday was the Grand Opening Party for Burn ‘Em Brewery’s To-Go shop. What a wonderful addition to Michigan City. These guys have worked so hard and it was really nice to see so many people attend their celebration and drink some really good beer.

Sunday was a full beach day with family and friends. BBQs, SUPs, and the sound of kids playing. As the sun set at 8:26, I took a moment to soak it all in. The beauty of the lake, the feel of the sand, the sounds of summer. It’s here, folks. It’s finally here.

This past week I was able to get out on the water and view the "other" side of the lake.

I would like to give a shout out to my Father-in-law, Dan Wierzbicki – who is one of my biggest blog followers. It was so nice to spend Father’s Day with you. You are a wonderful dad and grandpa!
