If you are looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday filled with creativity, exploration, and community spirit, the Dig the Dunes Makers Trail is the perfect event for you.
On March 7 from 11-5, we invite you to visit six different locations, each offering a hands-on project that lets you create something special. Whether you are an art lover, a craft enthusiast, or just someone who enjoys a fun day out, this event promises a full day of fun.

What Is the Dig the Dunes Makers Trail?
The Dig the Dunes Makers Trail is a community event that celebrates creativity and local craftsmanship. This year marks the fifth edition of the trail, and it has grown to include six locations, each hosting a unique project. When you purchase a ticket, you get access to all six projects, one at each venue. You can choose your starting point when buying your ticket, which helps manage crowd sizes and gives you the freedom to plan your own route after the first stop.
The event is designed to be a full-day experience. You will spend the day exploring different spots around the dunes, creating beautiful handmade items, and enjoying special offers from local restaurants. Some venues will also offer refreshments to keep you energized as you move from one project to the next.
The Six Creative Projects You Can Try
Each location on the Makers Trail offers a distinct project that reflects the local environment and artistic spirit. Here’s what you can expect at each venue:
Lubeznik Center for the Arts
Create stencil-printed travel accessories such as lip balm holders, hand sanitizer holders, and drink sleeves. You can make one or all three, customizing your items with fun designs.
Market on 12
Craft a beach dangle using local driftwood and decoupaged oyster shells or stones. This project connects you with natural materials found along the shore.
Over Yonder Dunes Gift Shop
Build a mosaic piece using beach stones, beads, and other found objects. This project lets you experiment with textures and colors inspired by the dunes.
Chesterton Art Center
Make a felt fabric bird brooch that you can wear on your clothes, attach to a bag, or use as a unique gift wrap decoration.
Make Make
Try your hand at weaving with a small loom block. This project introduces you to the basics of weaving and lets you create a small textile piece.
Running Vines
Design hagstone necklaces or keychains adorned with beads and bling. These items make great keepsakes or gifts.
By participating, you also support local businesses and artists, helping to keep the creative spirit of the area alive. Plus, the combination of art, nature, and good food makes for a memorable day.
