Friday, June 12, Dig the Dunes is excited to welcome The Illegal Smiles — a Chicago-based tribute to legendary songwriter John Prine — to the backyard at Zorn Brew Works for an unforgettable summer evening under the stars.
Prine’s music has always had a way of making people laugh, cry, reflect, and feel seen all within the same song. Widely regarded as one of America’s greatest songwriters, John Prine influenced generations of musicians with his honest lyrics, humor, compassion, and ability to capture everyday life in such a beautifully human way. Artists from Bonnie Raitt to Kris Kristofferson to Brandi Carlile have praised his songwriting, and his legacy continues to inspire music lovers everywhere.
The Illegal Smiles bring that spirit to life with a heartfelt tribute spanning Prine’s incredible catalog — from beloved classics to deeper cuts that longtime fans know by heart. Their performances have developed a loyal following throughout the Midwest thanks to their authentic love for the music and the communal experience these songs create.
Private tables for the June 12 show are almost sold out, but general admission and lawn seating are still available.
Then on Saturday, June 13, we’re keeping the music going with a free show featuring Aaron Kelly at Joe & Freddy’s.
Aaron is the lead singer from The Illegal Smiles and he brings along a few of his friends and bandmates.
The Saturday night show at Joe & Freddy’s will be a restaurant setting focused on Aaron’s original music. Admission is free, but please plan to arrive early and purchase dinner and drinks.
