What brought you to the dunes? My husband I were living in California with our new baby. After Noah was born, I went down to part time and my husband couldn’t find any work. So the company my dad worked for owned a company that had a position you had to be trained for . We literally did not have enough money to come and look at homes in Northwest Indiana, so my parents went looking for us and happened upon Ogden Dunes. I was an Environmental Educator at the time so the dunes area was a perfect fit.

How long have you lived here? I have lived in Ogden Dunes for almost 18 years.

What is your favorite thing to do in the area? I love to walk the beach and hike in the dunes. I do this almost daily.  In the winter I love to cross country ski. Last year I could ski right outside my home to the beach and then into the dunes. It was great.

Tell us a secret about the dunes – hmm, then it wouldn’t be a secret.  My favorite thing about Ogden Dunes is that it’s a community. When I was living in California, we were looking to create an intentional community. I also lived in one in southern california. What fascinates me is that I ended up in a Community in Indiana.  People look out for each other here. It’s impossible to be lonely as people are always out walking and taking care of each other. I love it and I love the connections, the parties and the camaraderie.  If I have to live in the midwest, I am staying in the dunes as it is the best kept secret. We have numerous events and opportunities for people to get together, have fun and do creative things.

Give us your top three “hidden treasures”

• Come and cross country ski

• Walk the beach in the winter, it’s fascinating and changes every day.

• Eat at Octave Grill as they are into organic foods and grass fed beef.

What would you like to teach people about the dunes? Nature is healing and soothing. Walk and hike in the dunes to get your exercise and relax.

Anything else? We have many great people, businesses, live music and opportunities to learn about everything from hypnosis to Sound Healings, to Acupuncture and Mental Training. You can make great changes in your life in Northwest Indiana by experiencing free hypnosis meditations, workshops and classes that can help you be the best you can be.
